A couple of years ago I was going to make an album about a space mission, kinda based on Voyager. The story is, we hear a signal coming from millions of miles away, so we launch a probe deep into outer space to find out what it means and where it came from. I'd still like to finish it one day.

Today I spent some time zhuzh-ing up my music website (tombofry.co.uk, for context), because I realised a lot of the content was outdated, or didn't fit with my current writing style (specifically the commissions page).

I also improved my audio player web component, which I might release as a separate module on github, because it's pretty neat 🤓

In response to my last note here, I'm going to try a sort of Discord chat bot that can file things away in the correct place, rather than rely on an external API. That way the services that offer webhooks as a premium feature, while still offering Discord as a free feature, can continue to reliably post YouTube videos and other things to the server through a message to a channel or something of the sort.

...now let's hope Discord doesn't get weird!
💬 I've just noticed that a few days ago my YouTube liked videos stopped appearing on this website. It turns out IFTTT removed webhooks from the free plan without warning (didn't receive any emails, to my knowledge). Now I need to come up with an alternative solution (and a stable one I don't have to interfere with for months or longer), and it pains me to know my list is not a source of truth anymore!

💬 Every three months, I have to go to the office for two days. Despite only having done the first day so far, I am already so exhausted. If I lived closer (ie. Within a walking or biking distance of about 15 minutes) and could duck out early if I needed a break, I might be able to tolerate going in more. Had this melody and chord pattern in my head for like a year now, somewhat inspired by ELO's Twilight and various Frost* songs. It's got a 2 minute long epic intro and I've barely started the first verse 😎

Am I making prog rock now? I sure hope so! It's one of my favourite genres but always seemed unapproachable as massively complicated to actually make, but ya gotta start somewhere!

PS. considering it's a draft, expect random clipping, poorly played/sung parts, and other weirdness

📸 Conveniently timed, I've been slowly working on a fancy lil web-component in plain javascript for my website, that embeds a nice player for my .opus files, something cohost can't do 😎😎 (although encoding and uploading them is a very manual process in comparison, and needs two files instead of just one, using the very Apple-specific CAF (Core Audio Format) container, because the three-trillion-dollar company didn't want to support opus normally like literally every other browser. So you win this round, cohost - I respect you).
